Herpes genitalis
Also called Herpes simplex type II. A viral infection often transmitted by sexual contact. May also be transmitted from mother to child during delivery.

Glandular fever - Mononucleosis
Infection with the Epstein-Barr virus which mostly attacks the lymph nodes - especially in young people. Symptoms: malaise, loss of appetite, fever, tonsillitis, and swollen glands. The symptoms last 1 - 2 weeks, but the tiredness may last longer.

Shingles - Herpes zoster
Viral infection with a particular herpes virus (varicella zoster) attacking the sensory nerves. Skin areas that are supplied by infected nerves are covered by a red rash with fluid-filled blisters. The rash typically persists for a few days.
