Dandruff

Increased peeling of skin cells from the scalp. May be caused by injury and bad nutrition. Overuse of shampoo and perms may worsen the condition. Large productions and chronic condition may be caused by eczema or fungal growth.

Dementia

Chronic degenerative changes causing impaired memory, -orientation, and -intellectual function. The cause is degeneration of brain cells. The condition can also be caused by poisoning and be transitory if the brain cells are still intact.

Dependence - Addiction

Tobacco, drugs, medicine , alcohol, coffee, sugar and other foodstuffs may all create dependence. The way out of addiction begins with nutritional therapy and orthomolecular medicine.

Depression

A feeling of melancholy and sadness. The symptoms seem to depend on changes in the hippocampal area of the brain rather than imbalances in the production of cerebral neurotransmitters. Medicine, diet changes, and exercise can improve the condition.

Diabetes

Metabolic disease with reduced ability to remove glucose from the bloodstream, leading to disturbance in carbohydrate metabolism. To live a good and long life with diabetes requires following a strict diet and having an overall healthy lifestyle.

Diarrhoea and increased peristaltics

Frequent and increased bowel movements due to bacterial infection, parasite- or viral infection, or toxification, unhealthy lifestyle, and disease. If left untreated, diarrhea may cause serious ilness and can even be fatal.

Digestive problems

Generic term for symptoms originating in the alimentary tract, often caused by incomplete digestion of foodstuffs. May be caused by an unhealthy diet, eating too fast, and binge eating. It can, however, also be the result of poisoning or heredity.

Disseminated sclerosis - Multiple sclerosis

Chronic degenerative disease. The myelin sheaths (protective fat sheath surrounding nerves) are gradually degraded. The brain and spinal cord are affected leading to tiredness, paralysis, loss coordination, and perhaps loss of cognitive abilities.

Diverticulitis - Diverticulosis - Diverticula

A diverticulum is a small protruding sack in the inner lining of a hollow organ. Diverticulitis is inflammation of a diverticulum in the intestinal wall - usually found in the large intestine(colon). Diverticulitis is most common in elderly people.

Dizziness - Vertigo - Giddiness

Feelings of imbalance and movement of the surroundings. Symptoms can be nausea and vomiting. The organ of balance and orientation in space (the cortic organ) is located in the inner ear. Dizziness and nausea may originate from here.

Down's syndrome

Congenital chromosome abnormality resulting in mongolid features, developmental defects of inner organs, impairment of the immune system and different degrees of mental retardation (often severe).

Drug addiction

Habituation to mind altering, euphoriant, or tranquallizing drugs. Addiction often leeds to tolerance; increasingly larger doses are needed to achieve the desired effect. Dietary supplements can be a helpful in the fight against addiction.

Dryness of eyes

Caused by reduced lachrymal fluid production or -secretion. The dryness may cause inflammation. This is seen in Sjogren's syndrome, in different diseases of the connective tissues, malfunction of the blinking reflex, and in vitamin A deficiency.

Dyspraxia
