Butterbur - Umbrella Plant - Petasites hybridus

Used for coughing, spasms and abdominal pain, e.g. painful menstruation. Strengthens the digestion. Also used for healing wounds and rashes and as an antiallergic remedie against hay fever.

In 1953, a scientist, Dr. H. Druckrey, noticed that an extract of this plant had remarkable anti-cancer properties and especially counteracted the pain that accompanied cancer.
Considering that butterbur had only been used as a cough medicine, this discovery was a considerable scientific breakthrough, allthough it had already been noted earlier that the plant had remarkable anti-spastic and analgesic properties, especially in the gastrointestinal area.

Whole fresh spring plants with roots are used for the most effective remedies.

Research has shown that the plant is just as effective as antihistamine remedies when suffering from pollen allergy. However, the plant does not cause the side effects that typically accompanies antihistamine remedies like fatigue and drowsiness.

Moreover, studies indicate that an extract of the root can be used for reducing migraine attacks. The dose is 75 mg. of standardized extract twice a day.
