Fenugreek is a Mediterranean plant that can also, however, - under favourable conditions - grow in the northern regions. In the East, the green plant is used as a vegetable like spinach. In other countries, especially the seeds are used, e.g. crushed in fenugreek tea.
Fenugreek seeds have a powerful anti-inflammatory effect on the entire body, promotes the catabolism of fat and lessens the production of mucus.
Can be used externally as a compress for boils, wounds on the shinbone, and tumours. Fenugreek tea can also be used as a vaginal wash.
The plant leaves a strong but not unpleasant curry-like body odour. Fenugreek is also a component of the traditional curry blends.
It is recommended that whole seeds are crushed just before use to avoid that the seeds become rancid. Fenugreek sprouts are suitable for salads and breadmaking.
