Feverfew - Tanacetum parthenium

Profylactic herb against migraine, inflammation and allergy. Dilates the blood vessels. Probably most effective against migraine headaches if the migraine is of the kind that is relieved by applications of hot, moist compresses.

A preventive herb against headache and migraine. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic effect. It dilates the blood vessels and reduces fever.

For migraine it is probably most effective when used along with warm packs. It stimulates the appetite and has a digestive effect. Good for viscous pleghm in the lungs and the bronchi. Can be used for colds and muscular tension.

Precautions
Never use herbal medicine if you suspect that you have symptoms that should be clarified by a doctor.

If your condition is not improved within a month, you should see a naturopath or a phytotherapist about it. They might help you clarify the reasons for your migraine and offer you a more individualized treatment.

Contraindications
Should not be used during pregnancy or while breast-feeding.

Side effects
None, if recommended dosage is followed.

Dosage
3 ml. or a spoonful a day. Take it with some water. The herbs are strong - if necessary, rinse with your favourite beverage. Dried herb: 150 - 600 mg. daily. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.

Further fortification
Migraine can be caused by many different factors: A liver which does not purge the waste products effectively, a hormone system that does not function well, or perhaps tension in the back and the neck. You can also try Tanacetum Complex, which contains Tanacetum, and two other herbs that may help to relieve the problem.
