Ginger - Zingiber officinalis

Plant used for relieving nausea and stimulating the blood circulation of the legs. Effective against rheumatism, arthritis, inflammation of connective tissue, travel sickness and morning sickness. Expectorant and antiseptic. Stimulates digestion.

Keywords
Reduces nausea, stimulates the peripheral circulation in e.g. the legs, has a warming effect in case of infections. It is also an important drug for various kinds of rheumatic conditions since ginger inhibits the inflammation of the joints and the connective tissue. It is expectorant and inhibits bacteria in the respiratory passages. It induces the digestion, and it is an effective drug for car sickness, sea sickness and vomiting during pregnancy.

Precautions
Never use herbal medicine if you suspect that you have symptoms that should be clarified by a doctor. If you do not feel any improvement within a month - contact a phytotherapist or a naturopath.

Contraindications
None have been recorded.

Side effects
Usually, ginger has no side effects at the recommended dosage. Some people, however, might experience mild symptoms from their gastrointestinal tract in the form of eructations, a rumbling stomach, heartburn, and a foul taste in their mouth.

Dosage

  • 1:2 Extract: 3 ml. or a spoonful a day. To be taken with a little water. (Extracts are strong - you may want to rinse with a tasty beverage).
  • Dried ginger: from 0.75 g. - 3 g. a day.
  • Fresh ginger: 50 g. a day.

Further fortification
In case of nausea during pregnancy: Mashed potatoes or bananas! Peppermint, Mentha piperita can also be used.

Can also be eaten as a spice in food and drunk as tea, with lemon and syrup.
