Crataegus species have a strengthening effect on the heart by increasing the elasticity of the blood vessels and by promoting the blood flow in the cardiac muscle, and thereby induce the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the heart.
Lowers the blood pressure if it is too high, but otherwise it has a regulating effect on the blood pressure. Induces the ability of vitamin C to strengthen the small blood vessels, the capillaries, and it is a better antioxidant than vitamin C. The herb affects all the cells so that their ability to avoid the free radicals is improved.
Also used for angina pectoris, arteriosclerosis in the legs, increased heart rate, and irregular contractions of the heart. Can be used for a "tired" heart and a weak heart after e.g. pneumonia or other infections among elderly people. Can be used for a sore throat.
Precautions
Never use herbal medicine if you have symptoms that you suspect ought to be clarified by a doctor. If you don't experience any improvement within a month - contact a naturopath or a phytotherapist.
Contraindications
Do not use during pregnancy or while breast-feeding.

Dosage
3 ml. or a spoonful a day. To be taken with a little water.
The herbs are strong - you may choose to rinse with your favourite beverage.

In case of heart problems: Hawthorn (Crataegus oxycanthoides).
