Hoodia gordonii belongs to the large group af succulents which is a group af plants able to store water and therefore they thrive in dry areas.

Consumption of Hoodia is ment to work by fooling the cerebral appetite-regulating centre into believing that the stomach is full. Normally it is the blood sugar level which affects the appetite centre.
