It has been proved that common horsetail contains the mineral silicon which the body uses for strengthening the bones. The older you get, the worse you get at absorbing silicon. However, it appears that the body can more easily absorb silicon in the shape which common horsetain contains, that is, monosilicon acid.
Apart from silicon, common horsetail also contains selenium, and together they can induce the blood flow in the scalp. This way, it is also good for the growth of hair.
A herbal tea made from common horsetail can have a purifying effect on the kidneys. The tea should boil for 20 min. in order for it to liberate its content of silicon.
