Lavender - Lavandula angustifolia/-officinalis

A lightly calming herb. good for sleep- and digestive problems, stomach ache, and headache. Used for moth and flea problems. Externalyl used for wounds and skin problems.

Both the flowers and the lavender oil have good properties against many different sufferings.

The lavender oil is probably best known as a very common ingredient in many perfumes. The oil can be added to the bath water as a bath oil and can be used in a hip-bath for vaginal catarrh. Lavender oil can be used as a massage oil, for smearing painful areas on the body, and to relieve the irritation that accompanies insect bites. The oil can also induce the healing of burnt skin.

Internal use of lavender is used for digestive problems, intestinal gas and colic pains, and in the treatment of various nervous sufferings.

The strong ethereal oil should only be used internally under expert guidance from a herb specialist.

Another variety is Lavandula spica.
