When taken in small doses, mistletoe has a calming and mildly anxiolytic effect. The plant and preparations made from the plant, however, is mostly known as a part of alternative cancer treatment. Here, treatment with injections is most common. However, mistletoe is a slowly working preparation and is not equally well suited for all kinds of cancer. It is said to have the best effect on breast cancer, malignant melanoma, cancer in the abdomen and in the genitals. The effect on for example lung cancer and kidney cancer is very small.
Besides the apparent effect on cancer cells, mistletoe is used for improving the patient's appetite and quality of sleep and for relieving any pain.
Dosage
1:2 extracct: 3 - 6 ml. daily in a little water.
Tea made from 2 – 4 dried twigs and leaves 3 times daily.
Injections with various mistletoe solutions is to be taken according to a table. It is given subcutaneously or intravenously. Just as diabetics learn to take their insulin, cancer patients learn to inject themselves with mistletoe preparations since it is taken subsequently to prevent metastases. The correct dosage causes a raise in body temperature within 24 hours.
Warning
The treatment with mistletoe is controversial. Therefore, mistletoe should only be administered by professional and skilled herbal specialists. The berries must never be used since they are very toxic.
