People who can benefit from supplementary molybdenum
- People with intestinal diseases and therefore reduced ability to absorb nutrients
- People who cannot tolerate sulfites (compounds containing sulfur), which are used as preservatives in wine and in some foodstuffs
- People with elevated levels of iron or copper
We get molybdenum through the diet from wheat germ, lentils, whole wheat, garlic, beans, some spices, liver, and beef kidney.
Over dosage
Symptoms like those of Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism) as well as gout. High uric acid levels as well as copper deficit can occur with a daily intake of over 0.5 mg. Stunted growth in children has also been reported.
