PABA is a vitamin B-like substance that is a part of the vitamin B9 (Folic acid). The body can produce PABA in the intestines if it has a healthy intestinal flora. The largest concentration of PABA can be found in our skin cells.
PABA is used as part of the treatment in sunburning. It is used both in- and externally since - to some extent - it can absorb ultraviolet radiation. PABA is used also used for burns, pigment atrophy, eczema, anaemia, fatigue, lupus, scleroderma, and erysipelas. It is also used to normalize bad intestinal flora.
The richest natural sources of PABA are liver, brewers' yeast, wheat germ, and molasses.
Therapeutic dosage
300 - 500 mg. daily. Has been used in far higher doses under clinical observation. Works best if taken with a supplement of other B vitamins.
Warning
Do not use PABA together with antibiotics (sulfoamides).
