The B-vitamins are absolutely necessary in practically every single phase of the catabolization of carbohydrates, fats and the amino acids, which are the component parts of proteins. For this reason, they are indispensableto our energy production in all phases and forms.
Every cell's energy and well-being depend on the presence of vitamin B. Our own well-being depends on the well-being of the cells.
Vitamin B deficiency means energy crisis. Where the crisis strikes depends on where the deficiency sets in. Energy crisis in the nervous system means depression, mental disorder, lethargy, and "bad nerves". Energy crisis in the muscles means stiffness, pains, fatigue, weakening, and failing working capacity.
Energy crisis in the digestional system leads to constipation, colitis, poor food absorption and all the many other complaints caused by these illnesses.
Endocrine energy crisis leads to hormone failure which causes impotence, insomnia, indigestion, and immune failure which again leads to heightened vulnerability to infection.
When a deficiency of the B-vitamins - even of a single one - sets in, parts of the catabolization of e.g. carbohydrates will begin to fail. It means that partly catabolized carbohydrates are stored in the body and cannot be broken down or transported until the function is restored.
The function can only be restored by supplementing the lacking vitamin B.
We see more vitamin B deficiencies every day than we seem to realize: bad nerves, insomnia, depressions, exhaustion, anaemia, eczema, failing memory, menstrual problems, failing powers of concentration, high blood cholesterol, alcoholism, and drug addiction have quite often been brought about by a vitamin B deficiency. But the treatment of these illnesses is rarely targeted at the real causes.
The medical treatment for these diseases is often sleeping tablets, sedatives, diuretics, cortizone, contraceptive pills, skin lotion - and psychotherapy. But those are treatments can ignore the cause of the disease and therefore do not as a cure.
Pharmaceutical treatment of patients with vitamin deficiency can eventually lead to diseases worse than the original problem. For this reason it is important to recognize the vitamin deficiencies and correct them, e.g. with vitamin supplements.
