The bark contains yohimbine which tests have found to improve the male powers of erection. Moreover, yohimbe has a MAO-inhibiting effect and can in this way stimulate people's spirits.
Dosage
- Yohimbe: What equals 2000 mg. of yohimbe a day. Spread the dose out over the entire day.
- Yohimbine: 5-10 mg 1-3 times a day.
The drug must be taken for some weeks before it the effect sets in. If you experience nausea or dizziness, use half the dose. After some time, you can try to step up the dose again. Take a break after using the drug for 10 weeks.
Warnings
The drug may in some cases have side effects in the form of elevated blood pressure, headache, a blushing face, palpitation, and anxiety. Should not be used in case of kidney- or liver diseases without the consent of your doctor.
Avoid taking Yohimbe together with a supplement of the amino acids tyrosine and phenylalanine.
Avoid taking Yohimbe together with food and drinks with a high content of tyramine (e.g. beer, wine, and cheese).
Avoid taking Yohimbe together with medicine that elevate the blood pressure.
Avoid taking Yohimbe together with antidepressants (MAOIs).

Symptoms of overdose
Increased salivation, enlarged pupils, need to have one's bowels moved, vomiting, drop in blood pressure, and cardiac symptoms.
